Trends to keep & thrash from SS12.
The hottest season heated up with new styles as summer was upon us and we waved goodbye to the fur. However, it soon went by & now we’re left to debate on trends to keep and trends to thrash.
Here are some trends to keep:
Women
Appliqué Florals – The first obvious look every summer are the florals. The mix of some 3D Appliqué Florals is so Chanel. However, I’ve realised that although flowers do give you the utmost feminine look, it is the type of prints that can either subtract or add points to your fashion credentials. This top worn at the Chanel SS12 fashion show was the cutest, I love the girly pretty pink colours and the tailoring as it can be paired up with almost anything.
Collars: Collars are a sweet sixties Peter Pan look, used by Louis Vuitton, they’re still here to stay. You can now buy detachable ones to mix and match with a few different tops and shirts.
Men
Easy tailoring – I simply love a guy in formals. Loose soft-tailored jackets and crumpled fabrics was the most fashionable style of the season. They look stylish and sophisticated, yet quite laid-back if you wear them with a good pair of denim jeans or cropped trousers. The one guy who knows his suits I think is Scott Disick, I rarely see him in anything else!
The summer tartans and checks provide an alternative for the big tropical prints. I love checked shirts but they have to be worn well, after all, you don’t want to go out looking like Scottish souvenir shops … remember less is more!
‘Trends’ to thrash
Women:
-Put away those suspender tights; it’s time to say goodbye to the mistress look.
-Stars and astrological patterns are only for kids.
-Punky tees/vintage rock tops – put them away, they are shabby.
Men:
-Low-waist jeans, please. Nobody is interested in seeing your ‘Calvin Klein’s’!
-Tight sweaters, tight jeans, tight tees – all unsexy.
- An overly-accessorized man looks like he’s trying too hard.
