Like I promised, I am writing an article about the ADHD Personalities for us who have it, to live with it in an optimistic and productive way …. Also for thouse who think it is a Handycap, for partners who love a person with ADHD and parents who have children with ADHD and all that want to know how to handle this.First of all, we are highly intelligent, feeling human beeings who sees, perceive & live life from another point of view as you maybe only are used to. So my believe is everyone who is open minded can understand different ways of living perceiving and thinking, so nothing complicated and that is why in my opinion it is not a “Handycap” that has to be or cured or excluded from society… My opinion is that society has to expand their mind to tolarate and include everyone, so everybody has a chance with their own personal skills. But maybe all this is also an evolutionary issue, like we are now accepting people from all colors and cultures in a tolerant way, without beeing judgamental.I want to show you a really beautiful Dacumentary Movie, that shows ADHD and other “Handycaps” in my opinion in the right light. Now some facts: Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)From Wikipedia, the free encyclopediaAttention deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a mental disorder[1] and neurobehavioral disorder[2] characterized by either significant difficulties of inattention or hyperactivity and impulsiveness or a combination of the two. According to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-IV-TR), symptoms emerge before seven years of age. There are three subtypes of the disorder which consist of it being predominantly inattentive (ADHD-PI or ADHD-I), predominantely hyperactive-impulsive (ADHD-HI or ADHD-H), or the two combined (ADHD-C). Oftentimes people refer to ADHD-PI as “attention deficit disorder” (ADD), however, the latter has not been officially accepted since the 1994 revision of the DSM. ADHD impacts school-aged children and results in restlessness, acting impulsively, and lack of focus which impairs their ability to learn properly. It is a chronic disorder with 30 to 50 percent of those individuals diagnosed in childhood continuing to have symptoms into adulthood. Adolescents and adults with ADHD tend to develop coping mechanisms to compensate for some or all of their impairments. It is estimated that between two and five percent of adults live with ADHD.In addition, most clinicians have not received formal training in the assessment and treatment of ADHD, in particular in adult patients.ADHD management usually involves some combination of medications, behavior therapy, lifestyle changes, and counseling. Only children with severe ADHD symptoms should be considered for medication as a first-line treatment option. Medication therapy can also be considered for those with moderate ADHD symptoms who either refuse psychotherapeutic options or else fail to respond to psychotherapeutic input.ADHD and its diagnosis and treatment have been considered controversial since the 1970s. The controversies have involved clinicians, teachers, policymakers, parents and the media. Topics include ADHD’s causes, and the use of stimulant medications in its treatment. Most healthcare providers accept ADHD as a genuine disorder with debate in the scientific community centering mainly around how it is diagnosed and treated. The National Institute for Clinical Excellence, while acknowledging the controversy, states that the current treatments and methods of diagnosis are based on the dominant view of the academic literature.Between 2 and 5 percent of adults have ADHD. Between one-third, and up to 80 percent of the children diagnosed with ADHD continue having symptoms well into adulthood. Many adults, however, remain untreated. Untreated adults with ADHD often have chaotic lifestyles, may appear to be disorganized and may rely on non-prescribed drugs and alcohol to get by. They often have such associated psychiatric comorbidities as depression, anxiety disorder, substance abuse, or a learning disability Signs and symptomsInattention, hyperactivity, disruptive behavior and impulsivity are common in ADHD. Academic difficulties are also frequent. The symptoms are especially difficult to define because it is hard to draw a line at where normal levels of inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity end and clinically significant levels requiring intervention begin. To be diagnosed with ADHD, symptoms must be observed in two different settings for six months or more and to a degree that is greater than other children of the same age.The symptom categories yield three potential classifications of ADHD—predominantly inattentive type, predominantly hyperactive-impulsive type, or combined type if criteria for both subtypes are met:Predominantly inattentive type symptoms as listed by the U.S. National Institute of Mental Health may include:Be easily distracted, miss details, forget things, and frequently switch from one activity to another Have difficulty maintaining focus on one task Become bored with a task after only a few minutes, unless doing something enjoyable Have difficulty focusing attention on organizing and completing a task or learning something new or trouble completing or turning in homework assignments, often losing things (e.g., pencils, toys, assignments) needed to complete tasks or activities Not seem to listen when spoken to Daydream, become easily confused, and move slowly Have difficulty processing information as quickly and accurately as others Struggle to follow instructions. Predominantly hyperactive-impulsive type symptoms may include:Fidget and squirm in their seats Talk nonstop Dash around, touching or playing with anything and everything in sight Have trouble sitting still during dinner, school, and story time Be constantly in motion Have difficulty doing quiet tasks or activities and also these manifestations primarily of impulsivity:Be very impatient Blurt out inappropriate comments, show their emotions without restraint, and act without regard for consequences Have difficulty waiting for things they want or waiting their turns in games Most people exhibit some of these behaviors, but not to the degree where such behaviors significantly interfere with a person’s work, relationships, or studies—and in the absence of significant interference or impairment, a diagnosis of ADHD is normally not appropriate. The core impairments are consistent even in different cultural contexts. Some children, adolescents, and adults with ADHD have an increased risk of experiencing difficulties with social skills, such as social interaction and forming and maintaining friendships. About half of children and adolescents with ADHD experience rejection by their peers compared to 10-15 percent of non-ADHD children and adolescents. Training in social skills, behavioural modification and medication may have some limited beneficial effects. The most important factor in reducing emergence of later psychopathology, such as major depression, criminality, school failure, and substance use disorders is formation of friendships with people who are not involved in delinquent activities. Adolescents with ADHD are more likely to have difficulty making and keeping friends due to impairments in processing verbal and nonverbal language.Handwriting difficulties seem to be common in children with ADHD. Delays in speech and language as well as motor development occur more commonly in the ADHD population. A 2009 study found that children with ADHD move around a lot because it helps them stay alert enough to complete challenging tasks.
Associated disordersInattention and hyperactive behavior are not necessarily the only problems in children with ADHD. ADHD exists alone in only about 1/3 of the children diagnosed with it. The combination of ADHD with other conditions can greatly complicate diagnosis and treatment. Many co-existing conditions require other courses of treatment and should be diagnosed separately instead of being grouped in the ADHD diagnosis. Some of the associated conditions are:Oppositional defiant disorder and conduct disorder, which occur with ADHD at a rate of 50 percent and 20 percent respectively, are characterized by antisocial behaviors such as stubbornness, aggression, frequent temper tantrums, deceitfulness, lying, or stealing, inevitably linking these comorbid disorders with antisocial personality disorder (ASPD); about half of those with hyperactivity and ODD or CD develop ASPD in adulthood. However, modern brain imaging technology indicates that conduct disorder and ADHD are two distinct disorders.Borderline personality disorder, which was according to a study on 120 female psychiatric patients diagnosed and treated for BPD associated with ADHD in 70 percent of those cases.Primary disorder of vigilance, which is characterized by poor attention and concentration, as well as difficulties staying awake. These children tend to fidget, yawn and stretch and appear to be hyperactive in order to remain alert and active.Mood disorders (especially Bipolar disorder and Major depressive disorder). Boys diagnosed with the combined ADHD subtype have been shown to be more likely to suffer from a mood disorder.Bipolar disorder. Adults with ADHD sometimes have co-morbid bipolar disorder, which requires careful assessment in order to accurately diagnose and treat both conditions.Anxiety disorders, have been found to occur more commonly in the ADHD population.Obsessive-compulsive disorder. OCD can co-occur with ADHD and shares many of its characteristics.Substance use disorders. Adolescents and adults with ADHD are at a significantly increased risk of developing a substance abuse problem which can interfere with the evaluation and treatment of ADHD. The most commonly misused substances by the ADHD population are alcohol and cannabis; serious substance misuse problems should be treated first due to the serious risks and impairments that occur, with long-term alcohol misuse and long-term cannabis misuse and other drug misuse. There is a strong association between persistent bed wetting and ADHD as well as dyspraxia with up to 50 percent of dyspraxics having ADHD. Multiple research studies have also found a significant association between ADHD and language delay. Anxiety and depression are some of the disorders that can accompany ADHD. Academic studies, and research in private practice suggest that depression in ADHD appears to be increasingly prevalent in children as they get older, with a higher rate of increase in girls than in boys, and to vary in prevalence with the subtype of ADHD. Where a mood disorder complicates ADHD, it would be prudent to treat the mood disorder first, but parents of children with ADHD often wish to have the ADHD treated first, because the response to treatment is quicker.
High IQThere has been some controversy as to whether ADHD children with a high IQ have significant impairments. Research has shown that high IQ children with ADHD are more likely to repeat grades and have more social and functional impairments; more than half require additional academic support compared to children without ADHD. Additionally, more than half of high IQ ADHD people experience major depressive disorder or oppositional defiant disorder at some point in their lives. Generalised anxiety disorder, separation anxiety disorder and social phobia is also more common in high IQ ADHD individuals. There is some evidence that high IQ ADHD individuals are not at an increased risk of substance abuse and conduct disorder compared to low and average IQ ADHD young people. High IQ children and adolescents with ADHD can have their high intelligence level missed when standard testing is performed; high IQ ADHD people tend to require more comprehensive testing to detect their true intelligence level. High IQ ADHD children have a unique neuropsychological profile which typically shows a gap of 20 points or more between the verbal IQ and the performance IQ when tested on the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children; high IQ children without ADHD do not usually present with this sizable gap.(This is mine, High IQ ADHD-C and I really still work hard on my social phobia, Im so picky, intolerant and impacient, but it also helps me to recognize the same social phobia society themselves has)The specific causes of ADHD are not known. (Of curse not, it is nothing bad, it is part of evolution like other evolutionary issues the human race had to go through … SMH) And I´m not writing what Wikipedia is saying about this, because it is only speculation. My kind answer to all this is this animation I love so much and think the hole world already knows:
Translation:OUR EDUCATION SYSTEM“To make the selection by fair, everyone has to have the same examen, please climb the tree” MedicationPlease Please if you are a loving Parent, Doctor, Partner, don´t allaow people with ADHD and it´s Associated Disorders to take this damaging medicament, that only repress the symptoms and the “Patient” doesn´t learn to live with his challenges, that everybody has in life. Im really so thankful that my father didn´t allaow that I take legal & illegal drugs, my father loved me sooooooo much I cant thank him enough, he went all the difficult way with me, to tought me how to manage my life and live with the differences…I will talk more about this later, when I talk about my own experiences and how I manage all this. I also have an hormon disorder sice my Teenage time and take the Pill to balance it and Im so used to it and my body is so addicted to it, that it can´t handel this disbalance by itself anymore, I really get big trubbles when I try to overcome it without this Pill, taking it 20 Years now…If I would have known better, I would have let my body do it´s work alone and learned to balance them on itself I was an Teenager, Teenager have this disbalanced Hormons, its normal till the body gets its job donne!!!… And with the healthy lifestyle I have, it would have balanced on themselves anyway!….But I won´t keep trying till I find a solution. But for all lazy people who like to repress everything with Drugs, here is some information:Stimulant medications are the medical treatment of choice. There are a number of non-stimulant medications, such as atomoxetine, that may be used as alternatives. There are no good studies of comparative effectiveness between various medications, and there is a lack of evidence on their effects on academic performance and social behaviors. While stimulants and atomoxetine are generally safe, there are side-effects and contraindications to their use. Medications are not recommended for preschool children, as their long-term effects in such young people are unknown. There is very little data on the long-term benefits or adverse effects of stimulants for ADHD. Any drug used for ADHD may have adverse drug reactions such as psychosis and mania, though methylphenidate-induced psychosis is uncommon. Regular monitoring of individuals receiving long-term stimulant therapy for possible treatment emergent psychosis has been recommended. Tolerance to the therapeutic effects of stimulants can occur,[92] and abrupt withdrawal is not recommended. People with ADHD have an increased risk of substance abuse, and stimulant medications reduce this risk. Stimulant medications in and of themselves however have the potential for abuse and dependence. Guidelines on when to use medications vary internationally, with the UK’s National Institute of Clinical Excellence, for example, recommending use only in severe cases, while most United States guidelines recommend medications in nearly all cases.[135] Deficiency in zinc is more commonly found in ADHD children compared to other children. There is evidence that zinc supplementation can benefit ADHD children who have low zinc levels.
My Personal RecomendationMy first and most important recomendation Is LOVE and TOLERANCE For Parents:SchoolA similar Kindergarten, Elementary School & High School with a Waldorf System is excellent! Specially if they have the High IQ ADHD. If you know a better School System please please let us know and write it on the comments section. After High School youth is so prepered for a University Life or A special School for High IQ and this UNI Systems is so free, that a ADHD person can manage his skills itself. What is Waldorf Education?Waldorf or Rudolf Steiner education is based on an anthroposophical view and understanding of the human being, that is, as a being of body, soul and spirit. The education mirrors the basic stages of a child’s development from childhood to adulthood, which in general reflects the development of humanity through history from our origin, far back in past times up to the present. The central focus for the Waldorf teacher is the development of that essence in every person that is independent of external appearance, by instilling in his/her pupils an understanding of and appreciation for their background and place in the world, not primarily as members of any specific nation, ethnic group or race, but as members of humanity and world citizens. Thus, the Waldorf kindergarten cultivates and works in support of the pre-school child’s deep, inborn natural attitude, belief and trust in and basic reverence for the world as an interesting and good place to live in.In the lower grades in elementary school, this leads over to more of a stress on using artistic elements in different forms (rhythm, movement, color, form, recitation, song, music), not primarily as a means of personal self expression, but as a means to learn to understand and relate to the world, building an understanding for different subjects out of what is beautiful in the world in the broadest sense of the word. And in the upper grades and high school, this leads in steps to an ever more conscious cultivation of an observing, reflecting and experimental scientific attitude to the world, focusing on building an understanding of what is true, based on personal experience, thinking and judgment. The goal of Waldorf or Rudolf Steiner education is to enable students as fully as possible to choose and, in freedom, to realize their individual path through life as adults. What is anthroposophical ?Anthroposophy is a human oriented spiritual philosophy that reflects and speaks to the basic deep spiritual questions of humanity, to our basic artistic needs, to the need to relate to the world out of a scientific attitude of mind, and to the need to develop a relation to the world in complete freedom and based on completely individual judgments and decisions.A more detailed description would possibly point to four basic aspects and levels of anthroposophy:1. Anthroposophy is a spiritual philosophy, mainly developed by Rudolf Steiner (1861-1925) at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century. It is born out of a philosophy of freedom, living at the core of anthroposophy. For more on anthroposophy and Rudolf Steiner from this perspective, see here, here and here.2. It is a path of knowledge or spiritual research, developed on the basis of European idealistic philosophy, rooted in the philosophies of Aristotle, Plato, and Thomas Aquinas. It is primarily defined by its method of research, and secondly by the possible knowledge or experiences this leads to.From this perspective, anthroposophy can also be called spiritual science. As such, it is an effort to develop not only natural scientific, but also a spiritual scientific research on the basis of the idealistic tradition, in the spirit of the historical strivings, that have led to the development of modern science. On this basis, anthroposophy strives to bridge the clefts that have developed since the Middle Ages between the sciences, the arts and the religious strivings of man as the three main areas of human culture, and build the foundation for a synthesis of them for the future. The central organization for the cultivation of this in connection with anthroposophy is a School of Spiritual Science, having a center at the Goetheanum in Dornach, Switzerland. For more on anthroposophy from this perspective, see here and here. For a discussion of some aspects of the relation between Natural Science and Spiritual Science, from the perspective of the general concept of Science and the Philosophy of Science, see here.3. Anthroposophy also is an impulse to nurture the life of the soul in the individual and in human society, meaning among other things to nurture the respect for and interest in others on a purely human basis independently of their origin and views. The main organization for this is the Anthroposophical Society, which exists in a world wide form, as national Anthroposophical Societies, and as groups formed on the basis of subject. For more on this, see here, and for the US, here.4. While rooted in a philosophy of freedom, developed as a method of spiritual research and an impulse to nurture a purely human interest in other people, it also has possible practical implications and as such lives as applied or practical anthroposophy in various “daughter movements” of anthroposophy.Education & LifestyleFor Parents:Let them do everyday one hour sports and two different at the same time, like 2 times a week swimming and 2 times a week Tennis…weekends let them play or do some woods adventure… Daily body activity is very important to balance and for concentration…let them have more interests at the same time, like playing guitar & painitng…we can do this and it keeps us awake and concentrated, we don’t get bored and get thouse weird ideas, because we try to stimulate ourselves. It is easyer to give ADHD people Retalin, but this medicament is a damaging drug that is recognized from the health system… . If you love your child, you don’t do that and go the hard & trying way, so your kids learn how to live and handle ADHD. Yoga with their meditations techiques is also excellent for selfcontrol, but allways together with a strong body sportsart to let out all this extra energy we have. With age it gets better and we can controll it better with all this methods. For the Yuth and Adults:I personaly do 2-3 hours sports daily to keep me balanced, one hour is always Yoga and I change the secuences often to keep it interessant with a 15 min. or longer meditation after the secuences, all other are different sportsarts, like Dancing (Belly Dance, Salsa, Samba, Hula), GYM: Cross Trainer, Bodybuilding and the different sport courses they have and I love love to be outside in the woods making some adventures, even Im used to it, because it was something that we did almost every Weekend with our father….and swimming in the beach.Really had problems with my education, because didn´t have the privilege to visit a School with a similar Waldorf System. And I´m a bit sad of it, because it made my life so hard…. but on the other side it made me hard too and I could study Business & Administarion (so I can have my feet on the ground and build a small business – Panambi Collection is on the way), studied Indoor Architecture & Decoration to develop my creativity talents, know perfectly Spanish & German…and my English on the way of perfection…know some portuguise (lack of oportunities to practice it right now) and want to learn French, maybe starting this Year……So I love to study and educate myself so much and last Year I started to study an ancient science: Vedic Astrology. So I think our “hyperactivity” is only the ability to do more things at the same time and quickly, very quickly remembering right now, how quickly I could absorve all information and started to dream because the teacher had to explain things 10 times so slow and so many unproductive things that we already know and say to ourselves: WTH is he/she talking about? zzz zzz zzz …well you know what I mean (ADHD´s)I have tausends of interests, so dificult for us to fix on a boring one thing, that is not normal for us and it drives us nuts!!! So you have to see this also from our eyes, we can handle more interests at the same time and we need that to keep our fast thinking busy and promoting. The only thing we really have to learn in a healthy form, is to keep a structure in our own way and how we need it, not how the “normal people” need it and want us to learn. Don´t allaow others that think they are normal, make rules over your life….we all are responsible of our lifes and what we make of it, to be happy… …and we have to figure out what is good and healthy for us, very important. And we have to avoid all this stress that “normal people” think, “it is normal”, “it is part of life”, “if you want to be somebody, you have to deal with it”……we know this better and know this is not true, so don´t allaow to push you to this unhealthy way of living, that is even killing people, because of this weird diseases they get. Diabetes, Heart Attacs, High Pressure, Anxiety, Burn Out (I even got this last year, because allaowed people to push me so hard, but I will get out of it, I promise) and other psychological diseases that also ruins the body.
Nutrition:VERY IMPORTANT: NO SUGGAR!!! There are other sweeteners like honey or stevia if it is necessary, the best: live it natural and eat fruits for sweetness. No tipe of stimulantes like coffe, black tea, green tea, coca cola, energy drinks etc. They drive us crazy, I eat a little piece of dark chocolate 85% every morning with minimum of cane suggar to get what I need, but my hole healthy nutrition balances the acidics out.Of curse not Junk Food and of curse we can go once a month or two to eat a pizza with our friends, if we balanced this out with the rest of our nutrition and sports, but I know we feel very bad after eating Junk Food and worse if we drink a coke with it, the day and the next are donne. But we also feel when we can do it or not. (We learn this with the time in the enviroment of a healthy lifestyle)I personaly support the veggetarian or vegan nutrition, because remember how meat and it´s friends made me uneasy inside and agressive…(also experimenting, while doing a veggie lifestyle, eating meat because doctor told me I have to and in my ignorance I did….they where trying to find out why I was sick in a part of my early 20ies, at the end I have the Celiac Disease/Gluten Intollerance and the meat theory was wrong, but noticed how uneasy inside and aggresive it made me) If you want to know why, what does a Vegetarian/Vegan Life means or if it is good to feed your little children vegan or vegetarian, already wrote a very informative article about it : Vegetarianism And VeganismPartnership for Young Adults and Adults:Well here is not so much to say than, we all have to make our own experiences to grow, but it is our responsability to choose who we let in our lives to help each other ot to screw our lives each other. My personal believe goes to the Vedic Astrology right now, it is really helping me to understand so many things in my life and in others, Carl Jung wrote:
The Alchemy of Relationship
“The meeting of two people is like the meeting of two chemical substances. If anything happens, both are changed.”
Also wrote an Article about Astrolgy, if you are interested: Astrology – Some Interesting FactsI personaly like and want people that have an intellingent, open minded, healthy, loving attitude. I need friends/a partner & an enviroment that can keep up with me, in education, in sports, open minded (people that can accept and handle differences) and Lifestyle….I personaly don´t have patience when it comes to the closer inner circle, they have to keep up with me and I need this healthy network and they need me. When I go out of my circle I use my with the time learned and developed social competence and tolerance And at least for all us adults ADHD, this will help us to keep us balanced and healthy, if you have some more suggestions or tips, please please right them on the comments section, so we can learn about it, think there is nothing better when we can help each other to grow. And we all have a time in our lives that get disbalanced, because of some reason, no matter what happen, allways remember you can train your balance back, no matter how long you need or how many times you have to start again…believe me, “normal people” have this breack downs too…nothing to feel bad about it or to give up So I hope you liked my Blog, you had fun reading it, it was informative and could help thousands of people about this issue.
